A&B is proud to introduce the Building Community Wealth programming, specifically designed to empower young adults in the Greater Montbello Area. This program aims to create a sustainable economic system that prioritizes the voices and needs of the community, fostering a thriving environment for residents in the 80239 and 80249 zip codes.

 

The Building Community Wealth program is a catalyst for change for our youth in the Greater Montbello Area. By focusing on business ownership, employment opportunities, and financial literacy, A&B aims to create a thriving, resilient community where residents can prosper. This program not only addresses immediate economic needs but also lays the foundation for long-term success and stability.

Staff Hiring and Development

  • Community-Centered Employment: 100% of the staff running the community center are members of the local community, reflecting A&B's commitment to local empowerment. Over 9 independent trainers are from the community and receive 100% of service fees earned.

  • First Job Experience: For 4 out of 6 employees, A&B provides their first real-world work experience, emphasizing the importance of hands-on learning and professional development.

Apprenticeship Program

  • Workforce Readiness: These 4 employees are part of A&B's apprentice program, where they gain practical skills and experience in a supportive environment.

  • Career Pathways: The apprenticeship program is designed to introduce participants to various career pathways, enhancing their future employment prospects.

Summer Internship Program

  • Partnerships: In collaboration with the City of Denver Office of Children's Affairs DYEP Program and Denver Public Schools, A&B will host 3 high school interns over the summer.

  • Real-World Experience: These internships provide high school students with valuable work experience, contributing to their workforce readiness and personal development.

Goals and Objectives

The Athletics & Beyond (A&B) BIPOC Wealth Builder Program is designed to empower Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities by providing tools and opportunities for economic advancement. Through this program, A&B supports wealth-building efforts by offering educational workshops, career pathways, and business development resources tailored to the unique needs of BIPOC individuals.

Key components of the program include:

  1. Financial Literacy Workshops: Participants learn essential financial skills such as budgeting, saving, investing, and managing credit. These workshops aim to break down barriers to financial knowledge and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their finances.

  2. Workforce Development: The program connects youth and adults with career opportunities, offering job shadowing, internships, apprenticeships, and professional development. By providing hands-on experience and mentorship, the program prepares participants for success in various industries.

  3. Entrepreneurial Support: Aspiring business owners receive guidance on how to start and grow their businesses. The program provides access to resources like business planning, marketing strategies, and networking opportunities, helping entrepreneurs build sustainable enterprises.

  4. Independent Trainers & Service Providers: A&B also collaborates with independent trainers and service providers, offering them a space to generate income while serving the community. This microeconomic approach supports community wealth building and provides a platform for local talent to thrive.

By addressing systemic inequities and providing culturally relevant programming, the A&B BIPOC Wealth Builder Program is committed to fostering economic empowerment and creating long-term financial stability for BIPOC communities.
